Based in Melbourne, Australia, Eamon Donnelly is an artist, illustrator, photographer and author of The Milk Bars Book.
Donnelly's work echoes the 1980s Australia he grew up in. The decade of colour, Australiana, long hot summers and glorious milk bars on every corner. His work has appeared in the pages of Rolling Stone, Playboy, GQ, Billboard and the New York Times and in campaigns for The Walt Disney Company, American Express, VH1, Redbull and Peters Ice Cream. Donnelly has won international awards for his illustration, spoken at design conferences and makes regular media appearances on the history and culture of Australian milk bars.
The Milk Bars Book was born through Donnelly's passion to tell Australian stories through his artistic practice. Documenting Australia's fading corner stores, milk bars, mixed businesses, general stores and delis all over Australia for over a decade, The Milk Bars Book is a richly nostalgic, colourfully illustrated coffee table book celebrating an iconic Australian invention, the milk bar. The book is an important record of a soon to be lost part of Australian culture.
The Milk Bars Book & Project has been featured in: The New York Times, The Age, Herald Sun, The Today Show, SBS, Broadsheet, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail UK, Channel 31, 3AW, ABC News, Studio 10, ABC Melbourne, ABC Perth, ABC Darwin, Vice, Triple RRR, Jetstar magazine, Monster Children, The Design Files, The Australian, The Weekly Review, 2SER 107.3, Southern Cross News, Geelong Advertiser and Desktop magazine.
“Eamon has a knack for capturing moments of Australian life like few others. Our past needs to be valued, documented and celebrated. The simplicity of the milk bar experience, a cherished memory of our childhoods, is one that should be elevated to a higher plane.” Tim "Rosso" Ross, Australian Comedian, writer, radio host, social commentator and design nerd.
